Lent Week 6
Salome is one of Wilde’s most neglected plays; a masterpiece of language and a poetic journey that is rich in imagery. It presents us with a focal point of the deep rooted desire of humans. The play’evocative language seduces the audience, plays with them and ultimately raisetheir repressed desires as the characters on stage bring forth their own.
Only in mirrors is it well to look, for mirrors do but show us masks"
We use masks, not to hide behind, but rather to show the real character we, as humans, are afraid to portray.
