Summer Vacation
Yeats' precisely constructed verse drama recounts an episode in the life of the young Cuchulain. The Irish hero has arrived at a well that grants its drinkers immortality. An old man there has been waiting to drink from the well, which is watched over by a priestess who can take the form of a hawk, for decades with no success. The sections of dance, dialogue, and stylised movement that follow draw on the Japanese noh drama for inspiration, in the creation of a ceremonious and otherworldly work.
