Michaelmas Week 3
The court of the Count Almaviva may appear idyllic, but there is trouble afoot. Having helped his master woo and wed the beautiful Rosina, the manservant Figaro longs to marry the lovely maid Susanna and settle into a peaceful life. However, the Count has other plans – his philandering ways have long since broken the spirit of the once joyful Countess, and now he sets his sights on Susanna! Determined to claim his ‘feudal right’, the Count will stop at nothing to waylay the wedding of our happy couple, even drafting in the help of some old enemies of Figaro … Meanwhile, the pageboy Cherubino is quickly becoming a menace in his own right – lovestruck at every turn and constantly burning with teenage passion. Perhaps, somehow, he could be a key player in helping Figaro, Susanna and the Countess to humble the callous Count once and for all? With family feuds, elaborate pranks, and the wish for a wedding (or two) all colliding in a single ‘Mad Day’, who could tell if there will be peace by midnight?
The drama, romance and hilarity of this much beloved masterpiece will be brought to life by a sensational group of Cambridge’s finest opera singers, actors and instrumentalists.
