Uncle Vanya looks after the estate of his brother-in-law, a frustrated professor who has recently remarried. Vanya manages the books, he has essentially raised his niece and, above all, he is grumpy. When Doctor Astrov appears one evening to check on the professor, he puts a spark of life back into the household which will end in unrequited love, illicit desire, and Vanya’s ‘just too late’ realisation of his wasted life.

Uncle Vanya explores what it means to be at home, whether in the relationships we have, the house we live in, or the world we inhabit.
