Is all fair in love and war? This opera of halves opposed - good against evil, comedy against tragedy, illusion against truth - is a thrilling retelling of the legendary battle between Britons and Saxons. Told through indelible compositions and masterful writing, King Arthur is a peerless masterpiece of Restoration opera that has lost none of its potency, wit and allure in its wintry fable of love and dark magic. We are looking for a choreographer  to bring this opera to life.

    Synopsis

King Arthur concerns the battle of the Britons (led by Arthur alongside his sorcerer, Merlin) against the Saxons (led by King Oswald as well as the evil Saxon wizard Osmond). Following a scene of Saxon sacrifice, Arthur is called to the battlefield, separating him from his newly betrothed, Emmeline, who had spurned the advances of Oswald. Despite conjuring the opposing spirits of Grimbald (an earthy spirit) and Philidel (an aery spirit), the Saxons are swiftly routed and flee the battlefield. In the aftermath, Philidel, defying the command of Osmond, defects to accompany Merlin.

In their journey to save Emmeline, Arthur and the Britons are accosted by various traps. Grimbald, donning the garb of a shepherd, fails in leading Arthur and his troops astray after being thwarted by Philidel, but manages to access Emmeline under the false pretence of being part of a travelling band of musicians to play her troubles away, gaining her trust in order to abscond her. Following this, Philidel ensnares Grimbald whilst on the lookout for Emmeline, and Arthur and his band merrily cross the forest.
