19:45, Thu 13th – Sat 15th February 2025 at West Road Concert Hall
Lent Week 3

We are looking for a producer , publicist , production manager , lighting designer  and stage manager  to join our team for this satire on the aesthetic movement of the 1870s and '80s in England with themes in literature, fine art, the decorative arts, and interior design. Patience was Gilbert and Sullivan’s sixth collaboration and ended up being their second longest running show on the West End, being second to The Mikado. The first show in the world to be fully lit by electric lights, the show was something of a trailblazer in its time.

Swept up in the aestheticism movement, all of the well-to-do ladies in the village are vying for the attention of the two contrasting aesthetic village poets. Alas, their efforts are to no avail as both poets' hearts are set on Patience, the village milk-maid. Patience, who claims to have never loved a soul, is too embroiled in her own poetic endeavours to be interested. However, this all changes when an old childhood friend, one of the poets, reappears…

Patience, or Bunthorne’s bride, is a satire on the aesthetic movement of the 1870s and '80s in England, part of the 19th-century European movement that emphasised aesthetic values over moral or social themes in literature, fine art, the decorative arts, and interior design. Called "Art for Art's Sake", the movement valued its ideals of beauty above any pragmatic concerns. The movement was so popular and also so easy to ridicule as a meaningless fad helped make Patience a big hit.

This production will take place between Thursday 13th February and Saturday 15th February, with 3 evening shows and a Saturday matinee.
