We're looking for a lighting designer to assist Fin and I in creating a world of architectural light.
Yes! I’m looking for a lighting designer ! For a really cool project!
It’s for a show called TAIBHSE (tie-v-sha) happening at BATS on February 14th (yes, you want to spend your Valentine’s Day with me). This is a dance piece that I’m creating from scratch centred around the idea of touch and ghosts (hence ‘Taibhse’, the Irish word for ghost).
The lighting is going to be the main component of this show, alongside a score by Dilan Shant. Finlay Wyer and myself have already begun researching and developing how the lighting will work, drawing on works of sculptural lighting like ‘Solid Light’ by Anthony McCall.
So, what we need YOU for is:
- Working together with Fin and I to build a lighting plan. Fin is on board as an
associate but you will lead on the prep work. The main work of this will involve creating videos (simple line-drawings and shapes) on software to project in the Hall. You’ll have to attend our research sessions in the space, getting to play with some really cool lighting to figure out our lighting vocabulary, then developing this further in your own time between rehearsals. - You’ll build a plan for the lighting rig and operate the system during tech rehearsals and the show.
- And finally, to be a beautiful addition to our small team, someone who is invested in making this piece as we all are.
To apply, it’s dead simple! Just send me an email with the following info and answers: - Name / pronouns
- Any experience in lighting or teching other shows.
- Why are lights cool and why do you like them!
Can’t wait to read your applications!
