Join CUGSS for an exciting in-situ performance in a unique venue. The show will take the very best of what Cambridge Theatre has to offer to Norfolk for a twoish week residential rehearsal and production period working in and with the local community. **Deadline Monday 7th April 23:59*

*In your application please answer the following:

    • What excites you about Ruddigore at Binham Priory
    • Why are you interested in joining us?!
    • What experience do you have that makes you think you’d be a good fit? (past experience of shows, live events etc.)
    • How you envision your role as part of the wider team
    • What are your particular strengths
      If a design role
    • Do you have any initial Creative ideas
    • Please include a few examples of work (relevant or applicable) from your past experiences*

    Chief Electrician  (CLX )

The Chief Electrician  is a particularly important role. You work closely alongside the Lighting Designer to put together the hire order, rig plan, and cabling plan taking into account the context of the site and working with the Venue Conservation Team. During prep-week there is the option to help with the pre-plot of the show. You will work similar hours to the LD during the get-in day, and be expected to work into the early hours of Tuesday morning for this role. During show week you will have lots of free time to enjoy your surroundings, as well as have the opportunity to help run crew for shows.

    Availability:
Planning: Easter Term/July/August around other commitments
In Residence: Tech Period and Show Week

    Technical Director

The Technical Director  is responsible for organising the set building team and managing the set build on get-in day. You need to be able to work out how to turn the Set Designer ’s ideas into reality. You will be expected to be in contact with the Set Designer , Director and Producer, and will need to produce detailed build plans well in advance of the show, as part of working with English Heritage on the production. We anticipate building the set in Cambridge, or perhaps or near the venue in Norfolk. The build time is very full on for this role as you will be leading the build of the set, however during show week you will have lots of free time to enjoy your surroundings, as well as have the opportunity to help on run crew for shows.

    Availability:
Planning: Easter Term/July/August around other commitments
In Residence: Tech Period and Show Week

    Set Designer

The Set Designer  is a very special role and one that will work very closely with the team communicating plans to English Heritage. There is a need to minimise the amount of set as the venue is a heritage site so this should not be an onerous role, but one that needs some care and discussions with the directors etc. You will work closely with the Technical Director  over the Summer as your design comes to life, and will then help the build. During show week you will have lots of free time to enjoy your surroundings, as well as have the opportunity to help on run crew for shows.

    Availability:
Planning: Easter Term/July/August around other commitments
In Residence: Tech Period and Show Week

    Costume Designer

The Costumer Designer gets to play with our quite extensive costume store and whatever other resources you want to find in order to dress our ensemble of ~20 people. You would most likely stay with members of the cast and get to be a lot more involved in the process than most Costume Designers in Cambridge. It’s a challenging but exciting role for anyone interested in costumes. This role will also involve working closely with the Director to develop the designs, plan, and source the costumes (don’t let transporting them worry you). In Norfolk, you will bring the costumes together and do fittings with the cast, whilst also having the opportunity to make anything specific that is needed. The Costume Designer will then be in charge of the costumes and dressing of the cast on show nights. We are open to applications from individuals or pairs for this role. There is the option to stay for the 2 weeks in Norfolk, or do this more remotely (/from Cambridge) upon discussion.

    Availability:
Planning: Easter Term/July/August around other commitments
In Residence: Tech Period and Show Week

    Stage Managers

The Stage Manager  will lead the cast and run crew during show week when at the theatre, with a more involved approach to rehearsals than in Cambridge as you will be present for most of these to be a point of communication for tech team and directors alike.. You will be responsible for health and safety (which comes with the unique challenge of being outside and performing in almost all weather), props, and ensuring the smooth running of the show. You need to be able to manage large groups of people, enjoy responsibility, and have the patience to manage the long tech day. We’re also keen to involve stage managers  in some of the rehearsal organising process, as you would be in the wider industry. It is also expected that you will do some props sourcing in advance before going down to Norfolk.

    Availability:
Planning: Easter Term/July/August around other commitments
    In Residence:
Depending on availability and role/team setup: Week 1
    Definitely in residence: Week 2&3
