Wider Prod Roles for Utopia Ltd! Welfare, Costume and set help!

We're excited to be expanding our production team to include a wider costume team as well as set designer  and a welfare lead. Ideas are coming together but we need some help with our vision for suped up sidge-girlie aesthetic fashion and bringing the botanic garden to the Fitzpat Hall. COSTUME TEAM

Are you a Vinted warrior? Do you haunt charity shops? I am looking for an inventive costume team to source/create/style the costumes for the 20 cast members in this production (please refer to the audition pack for a list of the characters). This will involve sourcing (from shops, online, and the cast and crew’s own wardrobes) and styling.

This may seem like a daunting task, but I hope it is alleviated by the fact I hope to put the Flowers in Progress in uniform-looking suits to reflect their corporate blandness (you are of course encouraged to adapt and accessorise if you like). I imagine the Utopians on the other hand with colourful and maximalist costumes, influenced by counter-culture styles past and present. Think Succession meets Vivienne Westwood meets Sidgwick Site in its highest form. We are accepting applications for general costume assistants, as well as a costume designer if you would be keen to take a more lead role. Additionally, we are accepting applications for Assistant Costume Designer as well if you do not feel confident enough to take lead responsibility for everything!

WELFARE REPRESENTATIVE

Staging a full operetta in a few weeks is a big undertaking and the team might need some support and snacks to keep us going! The welfare rep is there to help with any welfare concerns over the course of the production. In practice, this means being available for a chat if anyone needs it, helping to make any provisions that would make rehearsals easier for people, and bringing snacks (paid for out of the production budget!) to longer rehearsals. The welfare rep is never personally responsible for the wellbeing of the cast and crew, ultimately they are a friendly presence that people can turn to in moments of theatre stress!

SET DESIGNER 

I am looking for a creative and resourceful set designer  and team to help me bring the vision for the production to life. You will work with the directorial team to transform the Fitzpatrick Hall into the island of ~ Utopia ~ (before and after English corporate takeover!). My initial ideas include pre-English Utopia being like a maximalist greenhouse, filled with life and colour. As Utopia is ‘Anglicised’, I imagine the stage becoming more sterile and corporate. Do not worry if you have limited experience in construction or set-building, as we will have people to guide you and plenty of helping hands if drills and power tools are not your thing!

Most of the role will be sourcing the unreasonable amount of plants I hope to have onstage for this production, as well as liaising with the Producer to source pieces of furniture and various bits from around Cambridge (e.g., the ADC).
