We are looking for all voice parts to fill our principal and chorus roles of Ruddigore, taking place at Binham Priory on the Norfolk coast in September! This year the chorus are called for a shorter period of time so there is opportunity for more people to join us with differing availabilities. So if you're looking for a working MT holiday with a few days to explore Norfolk beaches, this might be for you... See audition pack for full details. **Note: first round auditions are by self-tape with callbacks to be held on the 9th and 10th May. Let us know if this presents difficulties!**

  • Fri 9th May, 09:00–14:30, TBC
  • Sat 10th May, 09:00–14:30, TBC

CUGSS has been lucky to have a longstanding slot at the Minack Theatre, Cornwall, which we are hoping to return to next year; however, this summer we will be performing closer to home! We are planning a site-specific performance of Ruddigore in the ruins of a Benedictine Priory in Norfolk. Ruddigore is one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s popular operettas which we think will work incredibly in and amongst the ruins.

We will spend two to three weeks in the area of Wells-next-the-Sea, a short drive from the site, with long sandy beaches. For those familiar with our previous shows in Cornwall, provided accommodation will be similar to Paul Village Hall - think indoor camping. As always you are welcome to organise your own accommodation and this year we will also be able to provide camping for those truly outdoorsy… If you have any questions about this please do not hesitate to get in touch - we know this is a bit of a departure from the normal CamTheatre show!

September in Norfolk is still delightfully warm and sunny, and our rehearsal period will be an intense but rewarding process with meals cooked by our Company Manager. Once the show is up your time is much more your own. The production team are working with English Heritage to bring an audience of 300 people onto a site of National Significance, one of a few monastic precincts in Norfolk that remain largely intact following the Reformation.

We believe that this show offers an amazing opportunity within Cambridge Theatre, with roles available for all levels of experience. This is a great chance to be involved in a high-quality show in a unique outdoor location.

For each role, we ask that you prepare an extract from Ruddigore (no need to be off book!), and a song which showcases your vocal ability. For certain roles this song is specified, but otherwise it is your free choice. We have suggested potential songs, but you are welcome to perform any song you like – our recommended list is there to spark ideas! Sheet music for all our suggested songs is provided if you are looking for inspiration.

Please note that you may be considered for roles other than the one you audition for. Similarly, if you are unsure what you would like to be considered for, please prepare a song of your choice and any of the dialogue extracts (again no need to be off book).
