“I want to love you but I can’t. I spend every moment thinking about you but I shouldn't. I want to be yours forever but…” This nuanced, new play needs YOU. We are looking for two female actors of colour to play the main love interests, Chinaza and Desirée, in this rehearsed reading — an untold story of love and faith, sure to tug at the heart strings and change perceptions.
Upon meeting, sparks fly immediately between Chinaza and Desirée and they slowly come to realise that they are everything they’ve ever wanted in a partner…except they’re both girls. Believing that they were heterosexual their entire lives, they now struggle with this new realisation that would otherwise be fine but one thing stands in their way: their devout faith. Their journey is tumultuous, following their religious shame, suppression of their sexuality, identity crises and figuring out how to be in love for the first time. But the question remains, is love alone strong enough to prevail?
This piece of new dynamic writing — a modern-day Romeo & Juliet — needs YOU. We are looking for two female actors of colour to play the protagonists, Chinaza and Desirée, in this moving portrayal of a forbidden love. The play is structured through duologue with passionate interjections of poetic monologues. This is a rehearsed reading that will take place as a One Night Stand at the Corpus Playroom as part of the Fletcher Players' 'Blank Canvas' programme, so is a great way to get involved in an impactful piece of theatre in a low pressure environment this Easter Term!
